THE STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS ON OUR NEW ALBUM
RESILIENT (2020)...
It was a tougher process this time but I hopefully came up
with some powerful lyrics to fit some great melodies.
I also focused on my singing which I have always disliked
(and am still not happy with...)
As the Wallabies are an "All-Star Band," we have two new official
members (Jeremy & Kyle) collaborating along with some of
the old gang (Aaron, Fast Ed, & Joey V.)!
Due to the pandemic, I had to play most of the guitar and bass
but I practiced hard and Joey V. made me sound good!
And, my older brother Joe joins us for the first time, adding a little guitar
on a new song about our late parents.
And we have two special guest Wallabies on lead guitar joining us!

The best part of making the album was watching my son add drums to
five tracks on the album. Am so, so proud...
ENTITLED
An angry "punk" sequel of sorts to "Short Sighted" from our debut album. Something has to change...
Amazing guitar solo from our Special Guest Wallaby, Michael Ward!
A new friend from Texas, Eric R., added some incredible background vocals.
RESILIENT (Instrumental)
Started out as an angry little melody about being invisible...
But Fast Ed morphed it into a soaring melody!
LAST CHANCE TO SEE
A song I began writing in the summer of 1996 when
my wife and I were driving across the country...
A REASON TO STAY
Inspired by both an Ethan Hawke line in the sci-fi classic "GATTACA"
and my leaving my girlfriend (now wife) behind back in 1989 to do
research on orcas in Washington State.
It is the first song that I've ever written in 3rd person - I tried my best to channel my inner David Baerwald, whom I finally got to meet after all these years.
A FAILURE AND A FOOL (Instrumental)
A sad instrumental after a really bad day.
I'M THERE (for Fiona)
Another beautiful soul lost inspired by a brother's thanks to everyone.
Another Special Guest Wallaby, Jeffrey F., adds a haunting solo with
some incredible ambient guitar from Michael Ward...
BEHIND A SHADOW
Lyrics written in the summer of 2016 by my father-in-law about his
daughter (my amazing wife), whom he never knew existed until October 2015.
He asked me to come up with a melody and then he surprised her with
the demo of it later that summer. WOW!
A new Wallaby, Aubrey, added a lovely piano track.
GONE
Written in November 2019 while attending the
Ian MooreSongwriting Camp (outside of Austin, TX).
In memory of my parents who passed away less than eight days apart in June 2019.
Wrote all three verses in one afternoon but was
extremely stuck on the bridge/chorus.
Ian helped with that (both the melody and chords) and I finished
those lyrics in the Austin Airport waiting for my flight home.
My older brother Joe adds a little rhythm guitar and
I wrote and played a little solo.
NOWHERE, TX
Written in November/December 2019 after my inspirational weekend
at the Ian Moore Songwriting Camp.
A love song for my wife and my parents...
SONG FOR GIBBY (Instrumental)
A little ditty written on a three string cigar box guitar that an old childhood
friend made for me after I saw a similar one in a local guitar shop.
Gibby was my classroom's pet gecko for two years who died unexpectedly.
The outpouring of love from current students and alumni was overwhelming.
A BIG thanks to Ed for jumping in for Jeremy during the pandemic and adding
some amazing mandolin (inspired by our good friend Eric Bazilian.)
