THE STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS ON OUR NEW ALBUM
LOST/FAITH (2023)...
The idea of writing a five song interconnected EP came during the final mixing of our last album Resilient (2020).
Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Rush's 2112, The Who's Tommy, and Green Day's American Idiot have always been favorites of Surly Dave's so he thought he would give it a try! As the songwriting progressed, three additional stand alone songs were also written. Seven of the eight tracks are just guitar and vocals.
Special Guest Jeffrey Finnegan became an official member of the Wallabies, performing amazing guitar on five tracks.
Eric Roberts, a special guest vocalist on Resilient added an amazing
guitar solo on the track Little Did I Know
Unfortunately, Special Guest Wallaby Michael Ward was unavailable but gave valuable feedback throughout the writing and recording.
The best part of making this album was recording a track live in the studio as a whole band. Was such great fun with incredible energy!
A huge thank you to engineer Joey Vana at JV Music for his tremendous job in mixing the album. I cannot thank him enough!
We hope these songs resonate with you...
INTO DARKNESS (Instrumental)
A dark introduction to the five song opus with biting guitar from Jeffrey
BROKEN
A song about being emotionally beaten with a fantastic guitar solo by Jeremy
LOST/FAITH
The pinnacle of the opus with some more brilliant guitar from Jeffrey
HOPE
A song of moving forward and making a difference.
Surly Dave wrote the original solo but handed it off to Jeffrey
ONE MORE DAY
A song inspired about a good friend's reconciliatory conversation with
an estranged friend. Beautiful Travis picking from Jeremy.
RELEASE DA SLUG
A punk song about an invasive algae species destroying the Mediterranean Sea and the little slug that may be the only solution.
Inspired by a film used in Surly Dave's Zoology course...
Recorded live with Jeffrey, Aaron (drums) and Kyle (bass)
LITTLE DID I KNOW
A love song written in 2021 at Ian Moore's Songwriting Camp
(outside of Austin, TX) but from Surly Dave's wife's perspective.
Eric Roberts adds an incredible lead guitar track and solo
LIGHTHOUSE OR THE STORM
Written in 2022 at Ian Moore's Songwriting Camp.
A powerful song about the paradox of helping or harming.
Again, more amazing guitar from Jeffrey!
